I was ecstatic. We were pregnant by December! Being the eager beaver that I am I wanted to be prepared for this baby and we immediately went out to buy a car seat. I was devastated when we miscarried in February. Shitty Birthday to me, right?
It took awhile before I was ready to try again and even then I was scared my body just didn't react well to Clomid. I was reluctant to use the drug again to get pregnant but it just wasn't happening otherwise. My doctor reassured me that I most likely wouldn't lose the next one and most women experienced at least one miscarriage during their childbearing years. If you have, my heart goes out to you.
By October I was ready for round two. My doctor put me on the same dose and badda-boom badda-bing--we were pregnant! Interestingly, since I was monitoring when I ovulated I would just like to note that we got pregnant on my youngest daughter's birthday. November 2nd is a blessed day for this family. :)
I was more cautious this time but I couldn't contain how excited I was. I WAS READY FOR A BABY! Waiting for the first appointment is the worst- and I was particularly anxious to hear our little bean's heartbeat.
My doctor was on maternity leave with her own newborn so I was handed off to her replacement. Luckily, my clinic offers an ultrasound for the first appointment and both Spencer and I were eager to see our babe.
Oh. Em. Gee. There is nothing quite like seeing two little nuggets on the ultrasound. I was over the moon. Spencer and I wanted two more kids and holy awesomeness- we were knocking them out with one pregnancy. TWINS.
Our parents were overjoyed. Two grand-babies due sometime July 2016. Our temporary doctor recommended that we have a formal ultrasound scheduled and we had an appointment in SLC set for just before Christmas.
I was excited as I laid down for the ultrasound and I couldn't wait to see our munchkins on the monitor again. Mind you, our first ultrasound was with the vaginal wand and this appointment was an abdominal ultrasound. Our tech knew we were expecting twins but when the screen popped up it looked funky.
The ultrasound tech didn't say anything for a second--her reasoning was that she wanted to verify they ALL had a heartbeat. "Well, you're not having twins. You have three babies in there." I am honestly surprised I didn't pass out. These have been referred to by other bloggers as "Super Twins" haha! I'm glad this shock has happened to other people- solidarity right?
We are having Di-Tri (Dichorionic, Triamniotic) triplets. Triplets B &C are a monochorionic, diamniotic pair which is just a fancy way of saying they'll be identical and share a placenta. Sneaky Baby C was hiding behind Baby B for our first ultrasound.
The shock does eventually wear off, I promise. Spencer looked like he needed a paper bag to breathe into and I could feel both of our stress levels skyrocketing. It was exciting but also extremely, overwhelmingly terrifying. We'll have five kids within five years of each other... a frightening thought.
Something even more terrifying? One of the first things I was told was that we'll be going through about thirty diapers a day for the first little bit.THIRTY DIAPERS EVERY SINGLE DAY! AHH! Also, you'll need to see a specialist. I was lucky enough to find an OBGYN that specialized in multiple gestation pregnancies and who was also the Co-Director for the Maternal Fetal Diagnostic Center. I was told I would be having an ultrasound every two weeks with a doctor appointment after every other ultrasound. It gets pretty crazy!
Also, let me just say... once people find out that you are having triplets you will be asked the most ridiculous, intrusive, and down-right naive questions. If you're an expecting mother of triplets reading this- BE PREPARED. Everyone and their dog has known someone with triplets and will give you advice galore on what to do/not to do. Feel free to ignore them- I certainly do.
Nothing can prepare you for triplets but I thank God every day that I have such a supportive and loving husband who helps me through this insane journey. We prayed for a little miracle and now we're getting three. :)
